This is one of my best friends Helen and her sweet family. She is a tall mom hoping to adopt again soon. Know anyone considering adoption? Please help me spread the word.
Check out Helen & Ryan’s adoption blog, and read their adoption profile. You can email them directly (at the address beneath their picture) or email me. I’ve known them both for years & love them! They are amazing people, and are going to make someone’s baby very happy.
I haven’t shopped much at JCPenney in years. I guess I have gotten kind of a Grandma-vibe from their clothes. No offense to Grandmas anywhere. But it seems that lately JCPenney has been trying to offer more variety, and appeal to us young(ish) people. I recently scored a $20 JCP credit (through a bargain shopping blog) and went to JCPenney.com to see what I could see. I got this blazer. I am kicking myself, because I ordered up a size. I am broad in the shoulders and ribs, & usually order up for tops. But it is supposed to be a bit fitted, so I am wishing I had ordered my regular size. I still like it, but am crossing my fingers that it will shrink a bit in the dryer. And guess what, the sleeves are actually long enough!
On a side note…I just discovered that JCPenney online now has 36″ inseam pants (they call “Ultra Talls”). Who knew? I may need to try those out in the future.

I’m always on the lookout for cute dresses in tall sizes. I hate it when the waistline hits me at the ribs. I got excited for a sec when I saw this, until I noticed how short it is. My days of wearing short dresses are long gone. But for any of you gals with great legs to show off, check this out. It is on sale too! (But can someone please tell the model to wear a dark slip? Thanks.)

I love that more companies are starting to carry tall sizes. Sometimes tall shirts are overlooked, but J. Jill makes them. This cute top is on sale right now. I wish the photo showed the sleeves pulled down, so we could get a better idea of how long they really are. Their “tall sizing” says they have extra length in the torso, sleeves, and adjust the placement of the waist as well.

A reader sent in a question that stumped me. Where do you find tall pantyhose? Well I lived in the hot desert for years, and was happy to be able to wear sandals most of the time. But now I am back in cold country, & open-toed shoes just don’t cut it in -20 degree weather. I haven’t shopped for pantyhose in a long time. But I actually need to. I used to just order up a size or two, because on their size charts, my weight and height lined up with a non-existant size.
Does anyone make extra tall pantyhose? And tall sizes that come in a wide weight range? If you have any great suggestions, email me and I’ll do a follow up post. Thanks!
Let’s face it, with height often come big feet. I’ve been skiing around on my size 11’s since junior high. I might even be 11 1/2 after having all these blasted babies. (Add that to the list of things they owe me for.)
Big shoes have gotten much easier to find than they used to be. One of my favorite online shops is Zappos. I first heard of it a couple years ago, in a news story featuring their unconventional work environment and customer service. They really do rock!
They carry every brand & style imaginable, and sizes up to 13. Their website is very user-friendly. Unfortunately they are not the cheapest store. But for hard-to-find things (like tall clothes & big shoes), I have to figure my time into the cost. Free shipping in both directions means I can order a dozen or more pairs of shoes without hesitation, and return as many as I want. Within a year no less. That’s right, not a month but a YEAR! And if it saves me from trucking all over town (including time & money for gas and babysitting), it is worth it.

For those in Australia, or anyone who will shop internationally, check this out. A reader emailed me that an Australian-based company named Tall Girls specializes in pants with 36″ inseams on up. The jeans shown here are 38″ in long! Just be sure to check the currency and size conversion before ordering. They recommend taking measurements to be sure of your size.
This company is a bit pricey (at least for my bargain-shopping blood). But if you have a 38-39″ inseam your options are limited. Better to splurge and get a couple pairs of pants you feel good in, than to get a bunch that are too short and always feel self-conscious, right?
And just FYI, for those of you with tall husbands or boyfriends they also have mens pants with 38-40″ inseams.

How cute are these pajamas? I have to admit, I am a frumpy sleeper in my shorts and old ratty t-shirts. I’ve been wanting to get some cuter pajamas.
A reader emailed me to let me know that Tall Exclusives carries long pajamas. The ones shown in the photo come in a 32″ or 34″ inseam, but some of their other styles come as long as 36″!

A reader emailed me about another store with inseams up to 37″. Vanity has 200 stores in 25 states with long inseams, as well as an online store. (Thanks Kelsey!)
Right now they have a bunch of long jeans on sale, starting as low as 7.99!

These are not advertisements, just stores I've found online that cater to the vertically blessed!
Tall girls often have a larger foot size that local shops don't cater to. Here's a list of places you can find wider, larger shoe sizes.
