Review: turtleneck sweater

I have been loving turtlenecks lately, maybe because I live in cold country and it is freezing right now. Yeah, 7 degrees at the moment. Turtlenecks always seem cute on other people, but I have not had the best of luck finding one I love. I bought this one in Red Pepper, thinking it would be nice and festive for the holidays. Unfortunately, it looked a bit mom-ish when I put it on. (No offense to moms anywhere. Heck, I am one.) I think I would try this one next time instead, as the plain ribbed style seems a bit…I don’t know, safer?

Summary:

Pros: Sweater length is decent, and sleeve length is very good for tall women.

Cons: Sweater shape is weird, and the band at the bottom feels very 80’s. Yarn pattern feels dated too.

Print whisper-light shirt

I love that more companies are starting to carry tall sizes. Sometimes tall shirts are overlooked, but J. Jill makes them. This cute top is on sale right now. I wish the photo showed the sleeves pulled down, so we could get a better idea of how long they really are. Their “tall sizing” says they have extra length in the torso, sleeves, and adjust the placement of the waist as well.

Extra long camis

My 18 year old body didn’t mind so much if a shirt was a bit short and showed my tummy or back when I bent over. But my “32 years old and 2 & 3/4 kids later” body? Yeah, that’s not happening. I’d rather keep things covered.

Thank goodness for long camisoles. They’re great for layering. Sakura Rose has a nice selection of extra long camis in several colors, some with lace and some without. Plus they’re reasonably priced.

The Gap is having a sale on a bunch of their tall sized tops. This one struck me, because it doesn’t have a defined waist, which would hit us tall gals at the ribs. Plus it looks cute, comfy, and feminine. Available in several colors and in tall sizes.

Collarbones Baby!

I love the neckline on this ‘Everyday Tee’. I’m not a big fan of cleavage spilling out everywhere -maybe because I’m lacking in that area. But there is something sexy about showing a bit of collarbone. Plus, because it’s from Long Elegant Legs there is extra length in the torso and sleeves. Available in a bunch of colors, from dark & neutral to bright summer shades.

Band Collar Shirt

This band-collar shirt from J. Jill comes in tall sizes at 27″ long. It has 3/4 length sleeves, pearlized buttons, and a notched band collar. To top it all off, it’s machine washable. And nearly half off. But hurry over, some sizes are selling out quickly.

Square Neck Top

I can’t put my finger on it, but there is just something I love about square neck tops. They are hard to find in tall sizes though. This one is not tall-sized, but is from Shade Clothing, whose tops are notoriously long. It has vintage crochet trim around the neckline, and the shoulders are a bit gathered. Dare wear silk?

I’ll admit, I usually don’t. With two food-slingers under the age of four, I generally stick with low maintenance tops. Ok, low maintenance everything. But if you can pull off silk, this is a great blouse for evening or the office. Because it comes in tall sizes, the wrap around waistband may actually hit you at the waist instead of the ribs.  Not for the faint of heart though, this blouse is 100% sillk and dry clean only.
